Originally founded by German immigrants, the Lincoln Square and Ravenswood communities continue to celebrate their heritage through a local museum and annual parade.

Whether it’s how to play an instrument at the School of Folk Music or trying a dish inspired by Argentinian cuisine, there’s always something new to do here. Along with German culture, the School of Folk Music encourages locals to try new things through learning music, dance, or theater. Residents of the neighborhood also enjoy delicious meals at family-owned restaurants in town or by supporting local farmers at the farmers' market.

There are delicious options for dining in Lincoln Square and Ravenswood. Artango Bar & Steakhouse has dishes inspired by Argentinian cuisine, including imported Argentine beef. The restaurant offers authentic dishes as well as Prohibition-era cocktails and rare European and Argentine wines to pair with your meal. 

 

Originally opened by two brothers in 1991, Garcia’s Restaurant continues the family tradition by serving delectable Mexican dishes. Their menu includes fajitas, burritos, and tacos that can be enjoyed in their indoor space or on their patio. They also serve breakfast.   

 

Learn about German culture and heritage at the Dank Haus German American Cultural Center. This cultural center has a museum, an art gallery, a library, and more to encourage locals to learn about German history and culture that continues today. The cultural center puts on several events throughout the year, including cooking classes that teach traditional dishes or Feierabend, an event where neighbors can relax and enjoy each other’s company while speaking or practicing German. 

 

Learn how to play a new instrument when you sign up for classes at the Old Town School of Folk Music. It offers classes in various styles of music, dance, theater, and visual art for members of the community to try something new.

 

Things to Do

Participate in several activities and events in the Lincoln Square and Ravenswood neighborhoods. Apple Fest takes place in the fall and brings residents together to celebrate the start of the season. There are food and beverage vendors and live music, entertainment, and activities. Listen to live music at the Square Roots Festival and enjoy local food vendors. The festival has a “kid zone” stage, making the event family-friendly. 

 

Shop the vendors at the Lincoln Park Farmers Market. Products range from organic foods to apothecary items. Celebrate local culture and history at the annual Von Steuben German Day Parade. This parade takes place in September and features floats, music, and dancers to celebrate a German figure special to the community.
