Local Lifestyle

Locals enjoy the outdoors and support the community. Whether it’s the local Evanston Made Market or movies in the park, residents love to spend time together. Get to know your neighbors while you eat delicious food from family-owned restaurant Walker Brothers Pancake House or bike outside during the annual Bike the Ridge event. As well, residents are connected to local history through the lighthouse, one of the first in the area. You can also find locals enjoying the university campus in town.

Dining, Entertainment & Shopping

Evanston is home to family-owned Walker Brothers Pancake House. This restaurant serves delicious breakfast options, from pancakes to eggs benedict and crêpes. The pancake house is a popular spot in the neighborhood.

Evanton isn’t lacking in entertainment and shopping. Northwestern University sits on the north side of the neighborhood with a beautiful campus accessible to locals as well as students. Grosse Point Lighthouse is by the lake and beach. This lighthouse was built in 1873 and was the main lighthouse pinpointing Chicago’s location. Today, it allows tours of the interior, where further history is shown. Enjoy the view of Lake Michigan from the lighthouse and beach.

Locals don’t have to travel far for music since the neighborhood has its own concert hall: Evanston Space. This concert hall sees national and local musicians alike, and residents can enjoy live music at the charming venue.

Things to Do

There are various activities for residents to enjoy year-round. Evanston Maker's Markets holds their event in the summer and fall. This market includes hundreds of handmade crafts, from art and jewelry to handbags and stationery. Similarly, Taste of Evanston takes place in September, where local restaurants, bakeries, and breweries offer samples. Taste of Evanston collects funds and donates to local charities.

Grab your bike and get some exercise as locals participate in the annual Bike the Ridge. For this event, the neighborhood closes off Ridge Avenue for bikers to enjoy. There are also food trucks and live music for your enjoyment while you bike. Continue the outdoor fun at the Starlight Concert & Movie Series. Starlight puts on concerts and movies in the park during the summer. Food trucks are available for the events so that you can enjoy a show and good food.
